  • UPEC Shasta County Members Raise Over $5,000 for Good News Rescue Mission and One Safe Place
    Updated On: Jun 30, 2014
UPEC Night to the Rescue Team Members

A team of UPEC Shasta County members spent the night of Saturday, May 3rd sleeping in cardboard boxes to raise money for the Good News Rescue Mission. UPEC Members Twyla Carpenter, Teri Bono, Ron Copeland, Audrey Jones, Jen Rowe (and her husband Barney), as well as Staff Members Christine Perry, Ocean Mottley, and Ryan Heron all gave their time and effort to this good cause. A great time was had by all bonding as Union brothers and sisters as well as getting our name out in the community as people who genuinely care about issues facing our community like homelessness and drug addiction.

The UPEC team made us all proud by winning the Bronze medal as the third highest fundraising out of 25 teams in all. Together, our team raised enough money for the Good News Rescue Mission to provide over 1,300 nights of shelter to area homeless.

A particularly spectacular effort was put forth by Jen Rowe of Health and Human Services, in tandem with her husband Barney, who raised over $1,100 for this wonderful event. Also putting forth a fantastic fundraising effort was Twyla Carpenter of Probation, who raised well over $500 dollars. Both Jen and Twyla were presented with Plaques by the Rescue Mission recognizing them as two of the top 3 individual fundraisers in the entire event, as well as to UPEC for placing in third. In addition to the Night To the Rescue Event, UPEC members from Social Services also raised over $2,300  for One Safe Place’s “Walk a Mile in Our Shoes” event. Sadly, we don’t have any pictures of our Brothers rocking those high heels for all of our entertainment.

We are working harder to make sure people in this area understand that we are strong, united, and proud members of the Redding community who stand as pillar of what makes the greater Redding area great. We are what makes Shasta County run. Every day our membership provides the services that hold this community together.
