  • It's About You Voting

UPEC Business Manager Chris Darker stuffing envelopes to mail to members on CALPERS Election this month
HEADQUARTERS -  By now you are receiving political mailers and seeing political ads popping up on the television. Local elections are quickly heating up with forums, editorials and front page articles. In the end, it's all about you voting. Sadly, not everyone has taken the time to register to vote or have recently moved and not updated their voter registration. Are you registered to vote?

This year as in 2010, I decided to manage a political campaign. Its like team sports where you learn the plays and moves of the opponents including filtering every word to prevent the offensive strategy by the local media. Fortunately, I enjoy teamwork and a good challenge as politics is the game we must participate in to win and to win for our working families. Working families pay and benefits are still on the chopping block and we continue to push back against those candidates who make that their platform.

By now public employees have received their ballots for the CALPERS election and in a separate mailer from Business Manager Chris Darker, information on Prya Mather. Those ballots are due in by September 29th. "The CALPERS election is just as important as a local and state election. We need to re-eelect those who will work to retain our benefits and improve and secure our investments.

I am proud to lead the charge on your behalf and I need every member to register to vote and to VOTE! As a reminder and example to our members, in the 2012 election we lost a  seat on the Redding City Council by nine (9) votes. What a disaster that has turned out to be for City employees. If every union household votes, we win! I can guarentee I will do more and give more of my effort but it all comes down to its about you voting!
