Safety Issues and Concerns

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

We care about our members, which means we care about their safety and welfare while at the work site. If you have a safety concern, it is important that it be reported immediately. The process to report and resolve the issue should be listed in your MOU or there may be a policy or procedure for your department. All concerns should be reported as soon as possible to avoid any possible injury or hazard to anyone. If you are uncertain about a concern or whether it is creditable you can always bring the concern to a shop steward or call the office to speak to a representative. Safety issues and concerns at the work place need to be addressed quickly and, if correction is needed, done so effectively and efficiently.

UPEC to Continue Arguing Damages Case

Monday this week, UPEC began hearings for the damages phase of a case related to Blood-Borne Pathogen Exposures and Occupational Exposure on behalf of employees at Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  Previously, in the arbitration on substantive issues, it was found that the GGNRA had not implemented a program designed to prevent Blood-Borne Pathogen exposures and employees were found potentially eligible to recover damages for 11 years of 8% Environmental Differential Pay (EDP), plus interest, as a consequence of occupational exposures in the worksites.
The hearings will continue on December 1, with the Union calling their remaining witnesses and GGNRA presenting their remaining witnesses.
