Scholarship Deadline Rapidly Approaching

The UPEC Local 792 Scholarship deadline is April 15, 2009. There are scholarships available for graduating High School Seniors as well as members wanting to attend the UPEC Leadership Conference. Please got to Scholarships section of the website for eligibilty information as well as applications. This date is rapidly approaching so make sure you apply soon!!!

Labor & Management Team


ANAHEIM - The Center for Collaborative Solutions (CCS) held the 20th Annual CCS Labor Management Conference this week in Anaheim. Several breakout sessions were held over a three day period including one new presentation on Labor and Management Committees (LMC’s). Local 792 Business Manager Chris Darker and Shasta County Director of Support Services Michelle Schafer presented “Just another meeting?” How to make strategic use of Joint Labor-Management Committees. Attorney Jeffrey Sloan, partner with Renne, Sloan, Holtzman, & Sakai LLP, facilitated the discussion.

Local Member Meeting

REDDING - The Quarterly Local Member meeting is Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 10:00am followed by a Political Action Committee Meeting at the Redding Headquarters. The UPEC Executive Board will meet in the afternoon.

PED Committee meets in Monterey


MONTEREY - The LIUNA Public Employee Department Coordinating Committee met March 13-14 at the Asilomar in Monterey. Committee members from every region met to discuss new training and benefits to offer members in the future. There was discussion on creating another training course and continue development of the Train the Trainer course. PED CC member and Business Manager Chris Darker participated in the meetings during his week long stay in the Monterey area to meet with members.

On the steps in Sacramento


SACRAMENTO - Union Leaders and members gather on Tuesday on the steps at the California State Capitol in support of the Employee Free Choice Act. The purpose of the rally was to bring this issue in front of lawmakers in Sacramento and to send a message to Washington that California Labor supports the Act that is now before the Senate. Buiness Manager Chris Darker participated at the rally while in Sacramento attending the California Labor Federation Conference this week.
