REDDING - Just three months after Business Manager Chris Darker made a plea for improved pedestrian safety to the Shasta County BOS a change has occurred. “Crossing Court Street in front of the County Administrative Center and Superior Court has been hazardous for decades”, said Darker. Two crosswalks were eliminated at Court and Yuba and a few modifications were done to the cross walk at Butte and Court. Darker appeared before the Board of Supervisors on December 15, 2008 just a week after Shasta County Sheriff’s employee and UPEC member Linda Runyon was hit by a vehicle and later died from her injuries. Darker called for reduced speed, additional signs, flashing crosswalk lights both in the street as well as on each side of Court Street. “I believe the County has a responsibility to reasonable ensure that it’s employees, as well as the general public are safe when conducting County business”, said Darker.
REDDING - PORAC North Valley Chapter Director Aaron Sockwell announced the Chapter will hold a BBQ Dinner at the UPEC Headquarters in Redding on Thursday, April 9th from 6:00 - 8:00pm.
