2009 UPEC Scholarships Awarded

REDDING - The United Public Employees of California (UPEC) Local 792 is excited to announce that four scholarships were awarded on June 27, 2009 at the UPEC Leadership Conference. There are four $500.00 scholarships awarded to senior high school students. “We are proud to be able to support educating our youth and helping our members become leaders in our union”, said Business Manager Chris Darker. The UPEC Executive Board provided start-up funding to get the program off the ground this year. The fund has already exceeded expectations and has funds for 2010.
2009 Scholarship Award Recipients
Thomas Bottyan
Thomas graduated from Shasta High School in Redding, CA. His mother, Andrea Bottyan is a member of the Shasta County General Unit. Thomas is planning on attending UC Davis to study Biology.
Bianca Ramirez
Bianca graduated from Willows High School in Willows, CA. Her mother, Olivia Ramirez, is a member of the Glenn County Mid-Managers Association and her father, Baduel Ramirez, is a member of the Glenn County General Unit. Bianca is planning on attending San Francisco State to study Communication Studies.
Katie Tenneson
Katie graduated from Trinity High School in Weaverville, CA. Her mother, Renie Tenneson, is a member of the Trinity County Management Confidential Unit. Katie is planning on attending Humboldt State to study Range Land Resources.
Caelan Urquhart
Caelan graduated from Carmel High School in Carmel, CA. His father, Kevan Urquhart, is a member of the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District General Unit. Caelan is planning on attending USC to study Business.
UPEC Local 792 would like extend thanks to the 2009 Scholarship Committee for their hard work and dedication throughout this process. The Committee was comprised of Christine Perry, Thomas Pringle, Michael Cottone, and Cinamon Pitts. Thank you to the UPEC Local 792 Executive Board and our Business Manager, Chris Darker, for their continued support of educating our youth and helping our members become leaders in our union. Also, a large thank you to everyone who has donated their time, monies and attended the Scholarship Golf Tournament, making the 2009 Scholarships possible.
