REDDING - The Redding City Council Chambers was nearly full tonight to hear the results of the report from the City Charter Exploratory Committee (CCEC). The committee made up of ten (10) appointee’s of the City Council, prepared a report on the results of 8 public meetings specific to forming a city charter. Chairman Lea Tate spoke briefly on the report and approximately 30 people spoke for and against the charter idea. Following public comment the council voted 3 - 2 against moving forward on the charter. Councilman Dickerson informed the citizens in favor of a charter to form a petition and collect the 15% of registered voter signatures to put the issue on the ballot if they are serious about moving the issue forward. According to an independent poll released on Monday, only 23% of those surveyed would vote for a charter.
