LIUNA Members Rise Up by the Thousands in Indiana, Wisconsin

Friday, March 04, 2011

Wisconsin - LIUNA members in Indiana, Wisconsin and other states are rising up by the thousands to defend the basic American right to join together for a common cause and collectively bargain. In Indianapolis, 2,000 LIUNA members joined around the clock protests in the Statehouse and successfully blocked so-called “right to work” legislation that would eliminate union work, cut pay and hurt pensions, and essentially destroy collective bargaining. The Indiana legislature postponed consideration of so-called “right to work” for the year. Momentum continues to build to block other attacks on unions and family-supporting wages in Indiana. In Ohio, LIUNA members and allies rallied to push back a so-called “right to workk” bill. And in Wisconsin where it all started, thousands of LIUNA members have joined tens of thousands of protesters occupying the Capitol building in Madison to prevent lawmakers from stripping workers of collective bargaining rights.

LIUNA activists from seven states facing these attacks have shown commitment and readiness to fight back. More than 5,000 members joined the “Fight Back for Good Jobs” telephone conference call with General President Terry O’Sullivan on February 8 to learn how to help defeat anti-worker legislation in their states.

Get on the frontlines and bring the Wisconsin rebellion against attacks on working men and women home to your state by joining an event in your community by checking lists at LIUNA .org.
