Modoc County General Unit Ratifies New MOU

Wednesday, October 08, 2008

On October 6, 2008 a secret ballot election was held in Alturas to accept or deny the County’s most recent offer. With a vote of 69 “yes” and 1 “no” the offer was accepted.

Although there was not a salary increase the employees were moved into CalPERS health insurance. The County is picking up 100% of the CalPERS insurance for all employees and dependents. The County is also paying for 100% of the current dental and vision insurance for the employee and the employees family. Going to the CalPERS insurance will give a retiring employee, who keeps the health insurance, about 20% of his/her premium paid by the County. Employees with over twenty-five years of service with the County will get five additional days of vacation annually. The employees have also had their floating holidays increased to two days annually.

The bargaining team of Nancy Richardson, Pam Randall, Bill Hall, Betty Brown and Chad Jessup are to be commended for their hard work and perseverance in obtaining this contract. I would also like to thank Pam Randall and Laurie Gossage from the Auditor’s Office for helping count the ballots. Also thanks to the Auditor, Judi Stevens, for allowing them to count the votes.
