Modoc Medical Center “VOTE” Was Not Done By the Union and is Invalid

Friday, July 15, 2011

On July 14, 2011 the UPEC Local 792 Union Office received reports that ballots were distributed to members for a vote on an offer from the Hospital. These ballots and the resulting votes were not done correctly, were not from the Union and are invalid. There will be a meeting on July 20, 2011 at the Quiznos Community Room in Alturas at 6:00PM to discuss this issue as well as to address the Hospitals offer, to determine if a vote is needed now and/or get direction from the membership to develop a counter offer.

Questions regarding the Hospitals offer that the Union was directed to ask were not even answered until the very end of the day on July 12, 2011. Members that are upset or need more information on the bargaining process should contact the UPEC office and not take matters into their own hands. By taking such action it not only disrupts the bargaining process but also creates a poor environment at work where fellow employees may feel coerced to agree with whatever management’s position is because of fear of reprisal.

Additionally, management does NOT have the RIGHT or ABILITY to call for a vote of the membership or to force a vote to take place. Only the membership can provide the direction to the Union to call for a vote, we get this direction at the membership meetings.

We strongly encourage all members to attend to the meeting on the 20th and contact either Cinamon Zink or Tammi Lidie at the UPEC Office at 800-241-1890 with any questions or comments. Only members can attend meetings or vote on Union issues, if you would like to become a voting member you can contact the Union office for information on that process.
