Monterey - The General Employees of Monterey will have an opportunity to cash in on their membership for signing up fellow employees to join their Union. Several of the staff of the United Public Employees of California Local 792 have arranged six opportunities for members to meet the staff that represent and negotiate the GEM collective bargaining agreement with the City of Monterey. “We think that it is important for members and non-members to meet with the staff and learn more about what our union does for the members”, stated Business Manager Chris Darker. UPEC is trying to grow the membership in preparation for future bargaining. “Bargaining a contract is not easy right now. We are working to keep what has been previously negotiated and make some forward progress and maximizing the membership count is a key factor for success”, stated Senior Labor Representative Steve Allen.
