On Workers’ Memorial Day, Take a Stand for Workplace Safety
Friday, April 23, 2010
HEADQUARTERS - Each and every day in this country, on average 14 workers die on the job as a result of workplace injuries. In 2008, 5,071 workers lost their lives on the job, and another 50,000 died from work-related diseases.
This past month has been remarkably tragic for workers across the country, with four oil industry accidents over last two weeks, as well as the explosion at the Massey Energy mine in West Virginia, which claimed 29 lives.
April 28th is Workers’ Memorial Day - a day to honor the working men and women who have been injured or killed at work, as well as highlight the need for tough and effective workplace safety laws.
