Redding Employees to Vote UPEC in 2 weeks
Saturday, April 09, 2011
REDDING - About 35 unrepresented employees working for the City of Redding will vote on April 20th deciding whether to be represented by UPEC/LiUNA Local 792 or continue unrepresented said UPEC Business Manager Chris Darker. “I believe we have put a strong unit together for these city employees who have recently been in the target sights for wage and benefit cuts”, said Darker. In September 2010 several employees announced their intent to form a union as the City Council announced they would be making additional cuts to their employees. UPEC was approached in January and asked to help organize a group of employees. The City approved the proposed bargaining unit in early March and completed the 30 day posting requirement yesterday. UPEC Staff and employee organizers met wit Assistant City Manager Barry Tippin yesterday afternoon and drafted out the election details that will be released in about 10 days.
