UPEC and City of Chico Reach Tentative Agreement in Negotiations

CHICO, CA - The United Public Employees of California Local 792 announced today they had reached a tentative agreement for the Confidential Unit in negotiations with the City of Chico.
The agreement, if approved by the City Council, provides a two-year agreement that includes 5% in wage and benefit concessions to help the City with their budget deficit. Employees will also change their health insurance provider that will avoid costly premium increases to both the City and the employees.
Business Manager Chris Darker stated this is the first Memorandum of Understanding for the Chico Confidential Unit who formed in July under UPEC’s representation. “We are pleased to have these dedicated public employees join our ranks”, said Darker. Contract negotiations concluded after 3 months.
UPEC has just one bargaining unit in Chico. “No one likes to cut their pay and benefits but we appreciate the Chico City Council allowing the employees to decide where to make those cuts to their income and for the flexibility to change the health insurance plan”, said Darker.
