UPEC Wins Big for SRMC Nurse

Wednesday, June 03, 2009

REDDING - UPEC Local 792 represented a former Shasta Regional Medical Center Registered Nurse before the Department of Industrial Relations on May 6, 2009. RN Angela Eckelman was seeking $310.48 in back wages that were owed her following her layoff on October 31, 2008. UPEC Labor Relations Representative Dave Ritchie aggressively pursued the case on her behalf and won an additional $13,971.60 in penalties against Shasta Regional Medical Center.
Business Manager Chris Darker said, “Unfortunately we can’t predict when an employer is going to violate federal law as SRMC did last October. We can, however, and we will, aggressively go after those who do. Just because we may not have a contractual or legal obligation to resolve the devastating affects, I feel a moral obligation to represent our former members and get what they are owed”. UPEC continues to represent former SRMC employees in matters related to the devastating layoff of October 31, 2008.
