U.S. Department of Labor Recognizes LIUNA’s Home Performance Apprenticeship

Friday, January 14, 2011

The LIUNA Training and Education Fund’s new residential Home Performance Laborer Apprenticeship Program has been approved by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship.

After extensive industry solicitation, the Office of Apprenticeship recognized Home Performance Laborer occupation as an apprentice-able trade, with stipulation that the designation can only be used in the residential construction sector not on commercial or industrial work.

This historic achievement followed a concentrated effort by LIUNA and LIUNA training to have the Labor Department recognize the emerging job classification, It recognizes the need to develop quality national training standards that encompass a broad career path for home performance work.

As residential home performance continues to expand, organizations with national standards and uniformity of training will be in the forefront of this marker. It is important that LIUNA’s Home Performance Laborer program set a consistent apprenticeship standard across the country.
